FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has disclosed that there were zero casualties from Wednesday’s fire incident at Eco Fitness Hub located at 4th Avenue in Gwarinpa District, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the FCT.
FEMD added that most of the fitness equipment at the gym was, however, destroyed by the fire, even as the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
A statement from Head, Public Affairs at the FEMD, Nkechi Isa, said the fire, which started in the lounge of the fitness center and quickly spread was brought under control by a combined team of FEMD, FCT Fire Services, Federal Fire Services, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT police command and Nigeria Red Cross.
According to FEMD, Search and Rescue Team, the fire incident started at about 10 am today and was contained at about noon.
It added that reacting to the incident, the Ag Director General of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed, appealed to FCT residents to be cautious as the dry season sets in.
Abdulrahman who cautioned that electrical appliances must be switched when not in use, also warned against indiscriminate bush burning.
