The Bauchi state government and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) have sealed an agreement to revamp a 30megawatts (MW) solar power project.
The Chinese firm announced the deal in a post on X on Monday.
“This project includes the installation of centralised PV modules, energy storage systems, the construction of a new energy control center, and the development of transmission lines and distribution facilities,” the post reads.
The CCECC said once completed, the project would alleviate the power supply shortage in the state and also boost the local economy and promote sustainable development.
On August 24, 2022, the federal government launched Nigeria’s energy transition plan as a major pathway in achieving universal energy access by 2030 and a carbon-neutral economy by 2060.
The government said the plan would, among other things, lift 100 million people out of poverty, reduce Nigeria’s carbon footprint, drive economic growth, and create jobs.
