The internet went agog at the just concluded BET awards when Nicki Minaj stepped on stage to accept the award for Best Female Hip Act 2014.
After accepting her plaque, the singer went ahead to give her acceptance speech which many believed was intentionally targeted at fellow female rapper, Iggy Azealia.
“My point is, what I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” she said. “And it made me realize, I don’t care what anybody got to say. I’m going to do me,” she said. “And I hope and pray that BET continues to honor authenticity”, she said.
After her statement received so much heat, the rapper quickly came out to clear the air via her twitter account, saying her words weren’t to diss anyone, most especially Azealia.

I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud.
That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that.
