Fire razes shops, property worth millions in Yobe market

Date:

An early morning fire has gutted a popular market in Gashu’a town, Yobe State, destroying shops with goods worth millions of Naira.
This is coming less than a week after a similar incident occurred at Damaturu Bayan-Tasha market.
The occurrence of the inferno was confirmed by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who said the agency is collaborating with Bade Local Government Council in conducting a preliminary assessment to mobilize resources and support small business owners who rely on daily sales to feed their families.
“We are deeply saddened by the devastating fire incident in Gashua and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families.
“As we prepare for a comprehensive response, we urge all communities to stay vigilant this harmattan season and take necessary precautions to prevent further incidents.
“Together, we will overcome this challenge,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Senator Musa Mustapha of Yobe East has expressed worry over the incessant fire outbreaks in markets and the attendant loss of goods and property in the state.
He expressed concern when he took to his official Facebook to react to the latest fire outbreak in Gashua Kaiya Kaiya Market.
“I reiterate my call to our marketers to be extraordinary careful in handling fire-prone materials especially during this harmattan season to forestall re-occurrence,” he said.
The cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filling this report.(DAILY POST)
