Editor-In-Chief and Chief Operating Officer of Premium Times Nigeria, Mr. Mojeed Musikilu and Group CEO, Editor-In-Chief of the print arm of Media Trust Group, Mallam Ahmed Shekarau have been re-elected President and Secretary of International Press Institute IPI Nigeria respectively.
Mojeed, Shekarau and four others who were elected unopposed and sworn in on Thursday, will direct the affairs of the global media body for the next three years.
Speaking during the inauguration, Mojeed who promised inclusive administration solicited for the support and commitment of members to enable him achieve his set objectives that will ensure free press.
His words, “I thank you for the confidence reposed on me and my colleagues. I have never dreamt of leading journalism body, but was drafted to do so by highly respected and revered media icons.
“They have this confidence on us to midwife the IPI Nigeria. They felt that we have the capacity to midwife IPI for better.
“I appreciate you all for your support and engorgement. Promoting free press is a task for all. The generation yet unborn will not forget us if we lay this good foundation for them.
“No investor will come where there is repression of journalists. We must continue to work on free press to improve things” he said.
Other members elected into the executive committee include: Fidelis Mbah of Al Jezeera English Television (Deputy President), Rafatu Salami of Voice of Nigeria (Treasurer), Yomi Adeboye of Herald Newspaper (Assistant Secretary) and Tobi Soniyi of Arise News (Legal Adviser).
