IDPs: Benue gov drums support from partners

Benue State Governor Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia has stressed that the enormity of the humanitarian crisis faced by the State requires cordinated effort from international partners.

Governor Alia who stated this on Thursday at Government House during a courtesy visit on him by the Chief of Mission, International Organization for Migration, IOM, in Nigeria Paula Pace and the Head of European Civil protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation Alexandre Castellano, noted that there is need for collective and innovative action determined to address displacement and fostering peace in the communities.

He explained that government has enrolled over 6273 IDPs into Benue Health Insurance Scheme while 70 hectares of land was earmarked for  construction of shelter for 5608 households with IOM assistance .

“We are fostering harmonious relationship with host communities. To bolster safety of IDPs, we have deployed over 5000 civil protection guards to protect them.

“We are providing displaced persons and communities with farm Inputs and training to ensure food security, economic independence and stability.

“I therefore, call on IOM and other international partners for continuous support in provision of water and sanitation, camp managment and coordination in health care services by expanding access to health care for Gender Based Violence, GBV, victims and mental support as well as agricultural support.He also appealed for provision of cooling vans to the association, which according to him, would aid them in supplying the commodity from other states.
