No fewer than eight people were crushed to death in a ghastly motor accident around Batati/Lanle to Kutigi in Lavun local government area of Niger state.

It was reliably gathered that the accident occurred around 8pm on Monday when a Toyota Corolla vehicle was trying to overtake a vehicle but ran into an on coming tanker trailer.

An eye witness told our reporter that all the 8 victims are farmers who migrated from Niger Zone B due to insecurity to Dasu village in Lavun local government area of the state for their farming activities.

He added that the victims consisted of four men and four women of different age brackets

Confirming the report, Assistant Commander of Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Kutigi branch, Mohammed Sanusi said it was a head-on collusion between the two vehicles leading to the casualties.

“I was shocked when I saw the way the bodies looked in the crushed vehicle, tears run down from my eyes uncontrollably. May God Almighty forgive them their shortcomings.”

He stated that it was the efforts of the Road Safety Commission personnel, Red Cross and the Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) who assisted at the accident scene.

No official statement has been issued by the state government, Niger state command of Nigerian Police Force and state commander of FRSC at the time of filing the report.
