Gombe NUJ pledges better coverage of trade industry

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Gombe branch had pledged its determination to effectively cover the activities Trade and Industry ministry in the state.

The chairman of Gombe state correspondents chapel of the NUJ, Mr Timothy Choji made the pledge yesterday when the Union paid a courtesy call on the new commissioner of Trade and Industry Alhaji Bakura Mohammed Bajoga.

He assured the commissioner that the chapel would not relent in covering its activies even as he said the correspondent chapel in the state would have an open door policy with the ministry to enable the ministry interact freely with the media for wider publicity. According to him, the appointment of Alhaji Bakura Bajoga as commissioner by governor Dankwambo did not come as a surprise due to his laudable achievements. The correspondents chairman also appealed to both Muslims and Christians to always pray for the peace in the country, even as he said the month of Ramadan should be a month of sober reflection to ensure the sustainability of peace despite the security challenges in the country. Responding, the commissioner of Trade and Industry in Gombe state, Alhaji Bakura Mohammed Bajoga thanked members of the correspondent chapel for the courtesy call.

He appealed to working Journalists in the state to balance their reports before going to press, noting that the media is the watch dog of any society. He said there was need for government programmes to be projected through the media. The commissioner also said that the relationship between the ministry of Trade and Industry with the media will continue to generate positive impact for the development of the state and promised an open door policy to ensure that the media have access to news gathering in the ministry.
