NEDC presents relief materials to IDPs, victims of insecurity in Bauchi

The North East Development Commission, NEDC, has presented relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State.

The beneficiaries are taking refuge in the constituency following crisis in parts of Plateau State bordering the area.

NEDC also rendered similar assistance to victims of banditry, kidnapping and other insecurity in Toro Federal Constituency of the State (Bauchi).

The support in the two constituencies are part of the Commission’s interventions and support recovery process of communities affected by disasters (natural and man-made).

NEDC said this followed a  formal requests by members representing the Constituencies at the National Assembly, Hon. Ja’afaru Gambo Leko (Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro) and Hon. Isma’ila Dabo (Toro), requesting that the Commission (NEDC) support the affected communities.

“Communities benefited from the support are; Boto, Lere, Bumjam, Wandi/Dot, Tsohon Garin Dass and Boi from Dass/Tafawa Balewa/BogoroFederal Constituency. Others are; Magama, Kogin Salla, Tulu, Kadade, Shau, Kafin Dulumiand Mana from Toro Federal Constituency.

“The beneficiaries received 2462 bags of rice (25kg bags) 1698 cartoons of spaghetti, 1698 (4L) gallons of cooking oil, 1732 pieces of mats and 1732 pieces of blanket. Others are 1462 pieces of children wear, 732 pieces of wrapper and 732 pieces of shadda brocade for men.

Presenting the items in separate occasions in Magama Gumau (Toro) and Dass (Dass/TB/Bogoro), the Deputy General Manager, Resettlement and Early Recovery(DGM – R&ER), Muhammad Sani Umar said the intervention is to support the affected individuals and communities in their recovery process.

“He explained that the intervention followed a formal request made by representatives of the Constituencies during a House of Representatives plenary session, as well as an on-the-ground assessment conducted by the NEDC in the affected communities.

“Mallam Umar however enjoined the citizens especially the youth to embrace self-help and actively participate in development initiatives and social activities to complement government efforts in providing essential amenities such as potable water, roads, and improved sanitation.

“Community involvement in development initiatives will significantly support government efforts in addressing critical needs like clean water, infrastructure, and hygiene,” He noted.

Receiving the materials the member representing the area Jafaru Gambo Leko appreciated God, commended the commission and other critical stakeholders from the Constituency for the support being given to him at all times.

Jafaru Gambo Leko who also commended other Donour Agencies for coming to the aids of the IDPs pledged judicious distribution of all the materials to the victims.
