UNICEF lauds GAVI-PHC over MoU handover in Gombe

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has said the partnership between GAVI and Primary Health Care Development Agency in Gombe state remains focal point among the eight states supported by GAVI funded support through implementation of Nigeria Government Health System to strengthening Primary Health Care MoU programme.

Chief, UNICEF Bauchi Field Office Dr. Nuzhat Rafique made this known in Gombe during the handing over of MoU between GAVI and Gombe Primary Health Care Development Agency on Friday.

She said the memorandum of understanding programme between GAVI and the Primary Health Care Development Agency in Gombe state have impacted tremendously which she said between April 2022 and March 2025, have improve Health  service delivery for Children and Mothers by strengthening Primary Health Care system and routine immunization services.

According to her, the achievements so far made by the Gombe state Government in the Health sector is highly commendable, noted that no fewer than 440 health workers were trained and distributed  to Primary Health Care facilities across the 114 wards to ensure the availability of at least 2 trained Health workers to support maternal and new born services across the 114 wards in the state.

She also emphasized that government in their wise decision, renovated 11 Cold stores in 11 local government areas, 5 Primary Health Care centers were renovated, 2 Hilux vehicles, 40 motorcycles, and 140 cold chain were also distributed to 114 wards to improved  access to potent vaccines.

While expressing her confidence, Dr. Rafique said 24, 874 vulnerable women and children were enrolled under Health insurance scheme of 4 priority zero dose in local government areas with a percentage of pregnant women supported at birth by health trained workers increased from 21.1 to 37.9 percent between 2018 and 2024.
