The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun Monday, told judicial officers that the integrity of the judiciary rests squarely on their conduct and decisions.
Judicial efficiency according to her is not merely about the speed of adjudication but also about competence, diligence, and the consistent application of legal principles to ensure that justice is not only done but manifestly seen to be done.
The CJN stated this while formally declaring open, 2025, Hybrid Refresher Course for Judges of the Lower Courts in Abuja.
The theme of the course is: “Enhancing Judicial Efficiency and Quality of Decision Making”
Giving a welcome address earlier, the Administrator National Judicial Institute (NJI), Justice Salisu Abdullahi, reminded that as cornerstone of the justice system, participants bear weighty responsibility of efficient service.
On the training, he added: “We have also introduced a structured feedback system to garner insights on the impact and relevance of training sessions.”
Kekere-Ekun, who was represented by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa in the Keynote address, noted further that the gathering has over the years proven to be an invaluable platform for equipping Magistrates, Judges of the Area, Sharia, and Customary courts with the necessary tools to stay abreast of legal developments, uphold judicial competence, and maintain the highest standard of professionalism.
The CJN reminded participants that in a time when judicial pronouncements are subjected to heightened scrutiny, she said it is essential that duties are discharged with high sense of responsibility, ensuring that court decisions reflect the principle of fairness, justice, and due process.
“Beyond efficiency, the quality of decision-making is a cornerstone of judicial service. This requires a firm commitment to ethical standards, unwavering impartiality, and a steadfast dedication to upholding the rule of law.” Kekere-Ekun said.
