Kano state government has assured civil servants in the state that their salaries would be paid before Eid-el-Fitr celebration, preferably from March 25.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Faruk Umar Ibrahim, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Kano on Monday.

The press conference was organized to brief the general public about the efforts being put by the state government to avoid discrepancies recorded during the payment of salaries of February.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Ibrahim said the government is aware of the approaching Eid-el-Fitr festival and would ensure the payment of the March salaries before the celebration.

According to him, civil servants in the sate are to validate their salaries for the month of March before payment, to guard against any discrepancies in the process as recorded previously.

Ibrahim said the measure was necessitated by workers’ complaints of discrepancies including deductions in their January and February salaries.

He said the workers had been instructed through their Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to endeavour to verify the salaries put on their names and report any observed discrepancy for necessary action.

He said the workers’ salary lists would be pasted at strategic places in the premises of the MDAs and the secretariat of the 44 local governments in the state to facilitate the process.

The SSG said a committee had been set up to conduct the exercise aimed at addressing the the reported discrepancies in the workers’ salaries.

“The committee, which is headed by the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, has been charged to fasttrack the exercise to enable the government to pay the March salaries as at when due.

“I assure you that the exercise will not disrupt government operations in the MDAs and the local government Secretariat as necessary measures had been put in place to prevent such.
