As the battle for the soul of the Labour Party between the factions led by Barr. Julius Abure and Sen. Nenadi Usman lingers, two leading figures of the party loyal to the Nenadi Usman led faction, the 2023 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the only state sovernor of the party, Dr. Alex Otti of Abia state, have convened the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in Abuja on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
A notice jointly signed by Obi and Otti which was also made available to the media said the NEC meeting shall be followed concurrently by an interactive town hall engagement with major stakeholders and other organs of the party.
The stakeholders listed to attend the meeting which will hold at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel include: the 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the party, Datti Baba Ahmed, serving and former aenators and senatorial candidates of LP in the 2023 election, serving and former members of House of Representatives and LP candidates in the 2023 election.
Other invitees are: all members of the National Caretaker Committee (NWC) and NTC, all former governors and governorship candidates who are still in the party, representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), political commission as well as all members of the former LP NWC.
The statement added that meeting is to further reposition the party in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling last week which it said terminated the Julius Abure-led NWC.
