Your continuous stay in office, illegal – Sowore tell IGP

Activist and leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has called on the inspector general of police Kayode Egbetokun to vacate the premises of the Nigeria Police Force describing his continuous stay in office as illegal

Sowore made the call during a protest tagged #EgbetokunMustGo at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja .

He is demanding that the IGP has overstayed his tenure by remaining in office having attained the compulsory retirement age since September 2024.

Driving home his point, the former presidential candidate also lamented the menace of insecurity in the country and insisted the IGP should vacate office for a more competent hand.

Recall that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi earlier In an advisory to the general public stated that Egbetokun’s continuous stay in office is legal, lawful and in line with the provisions of the Police Act amended

The AGF further stated that Egbetokun’s appointment which took effect from 31st October, 2023 would have come to an end on his attainment of 60 years of age on 4th September, 2024. However, before his retirement the Police Act was amended to allow the occupant of the office remain and complete the original four year term granted under Section 7 (6) of the Act.
