In a major step toward revitalizing public service delivery, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) has inaugurated a 26-member Ministerial Service Innovation Committee (MSIC). The committee is expected to spearhead innovative reforms aligned with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2025), which prioritizes innovation as a critical pillar for transformation.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja, was conducted in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

 In his address delivered on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, the Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, Mr. Naziru Abbas, emphasized the crucial role of innovation in enhancing economic growth, governance efficiency, and responsive service delivery.

The newly formed committee is tasked with initiating and institutionalizing transformative practices within the Ministry. Its key objectives include:

Scouting for Innovative Solutions: Identifying service improvement ideas with the potential to enhance operational efficiency and impact.

Fostering a Culture of Innovation: Encouraging creative thinking through staff engagement, capacity building, and brainstorming sessions.

Recognizing Excellence: Highlighting top performers within the Ministry and partner organizations as models for strategic decision-making.

Aligning with National Goals: Ensuring that all innovation efforts support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and broader national development objectives.

Deputy Director of Reform, Coordination, and Service Improvement, Mrs. Agu Jachinma, commended the Ministry’s leadership for its forward-thinking approach, stating:

“The inauguration of this committee underscores our collective resolve to institutionalize creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement. Reform is a shared responsibility, and every staff member has a role to play.”

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Henry Nwaedo, Deputy Director, Service Innovation Department, outlined the committee’s strategic responsibilities. These include conducting needs assessments, developing implementable strategies, creating collaboration frameworks, and offering policy recommendations based on staff and stakeholder feedback.

With the establishment of the MSIC, FMITI positions itself as a model for reform-driven governance in Nigeria. The committee is envisioned to function as the Ministry’s internal think tank formulating forward-looking strategies, policies, and systems designed to exceed citizen and stakeholder expectations.

By institutionalizing innovation at every level, FMITI reaffirms its dedication to improving service delivery, fostering economic development, and enhancing Nigeria’s global competitiveness in trade and investment.
