Police arraign 2 traders for beating up colleague, causing injury

The Police, on Tuesday, arraigned two traders, Ibrahim Abdullahi, 25, and Tahiru Mohammed, 20, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly beating up a fellow trader, causing grievous hurt.

The Police Prosecutor, Cpl Babangida Joseph, told the court that on July 9, Fati Mohammed, of Canopy Market, Wuse Zone 3, reported the two accused at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station.

He said that the complainant had reported that the accused persons, who were also traders in same market, formed a common intention with one Rabiu and beat her up.

According to Joseph, the accused persons alongside and Rabiu, who is now at large beat up the complainant and injured her sister, Rashidat Isah, who was trying to stop the fight.

He said that the accused persons were standing trial for the offences of joint act and causing hurt which contravened sections 79 and 245 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor said that if found guilty as charged, they would be punished with imprisonment for a term which might extend to three years or with fine or with both.

The two accused pleaded guilty to the crime.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Celestine Odoh, granted the accused persons in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He said that both the accused persons and the sureties must enter into a bond in the same amount.

Odoh adjourned the matter until Aug. 11 for hearing and the defence of the accused persons. (NAN)
