The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a revamped approach to combat drug abuse, focusing on both supply and demand reduction under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd).

Mr. Markus Ayuba, the NDLEA Zone A Commander, disclosed this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu, the state capital.

The NDLEA Zone A comprises Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe states.

Ayuba stated that the agency is prioritizing cost-effective prevention over expensive treatment, calling substance abuse “the central issue of our time.”

“The agency has introduced specialized zonal commands to adapt to the evolving tactics of drug traffickers. The drug war is fluid—we’re always trailing the bad guys,” he said.

The NDLEA also emphasized public awareness campaigns, particularly around June 12th, a day dedicated to exposing the dangers of drugs. “Drugs are fabulous fakes,” warned an agency psycho- clinician, adding that they trap users in a cycle of addiction.

He commended the Yobe State Government for its exceptional support, including refurbished vehicles and upgraded office facilities
