Private Sector Coalition Backs Tinubu’s CNG Agenda

Date:

A new coalition of private sector players, PRACNG – the Private Sector Alliance for Accelerated CNG Adoption – has declared its full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s compressed natural gas (CNG) roadmap, calling it “visionary and historic”.

In a statement issued Thursday, PRACNG’s Lead Coordinator, Charles Goriola Yakub, clarified that the group’s mission is to complement, not compete with, the government’s clean energy transition plan.

“The President’s CNG drive is commendable, but government alone cannot achieve the scale Nigeria needs,” Yakub said.

He praised the federal government’s initiative to provide free conversion kits for public transport vehicles but stressed the need to activate the commercial CNG segment — a space PRACNG intends to revitalise.

The coalition comprises investors, conversion centres, fleet operators, and energy entrepreneurs, united in a goal to breathe life back into a CNG market currently hindered by black-market pricing and a lack of structured financing.

“We’re not asking for handouts,” Yakub added.

“We are ready to invest in infrastructure, manpower, and service delivery — particularly targeting fleet owners and independent vehicle operators.”

He referenced former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, stating: “Government is not the solution to the problem; government is the problem — not by intention, but by design.”

Yakub said PRACNG’s approach includes capital deployment, market-driven innovation, and standardisation — all aimed at driving adoption on a national scale.

“This is not a parallel agenda,” he said. “It’s a national alignment.”

PRACNG plans to unveil its detailed roadmap in the coming weeks and is calling on stakeholders across Nigeria to join efforts to create a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
