A trigger-happy Police officer in the early hours of Friday allegedly shot and killed a final-year student of Kwararafa University Wukari, Taraba State  identified as Ahenjir Emmanuella during a stop-and-search operation in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Our correspondent gathered that the  ugly incident happened around the Wurukum roundabout, Makurdi as the  police  personnel from the E Division of the State command were on routine stop and search operation when one of the officers suddenly opened fire on a commercial vehicle conveying passengers resulting in the death of Emmanuella.

A friend of the late Emmanuella, Igbor Iorbo, told our correspondent in Makurdi that she was returning to school in Wukari in Taraba State before the incident occured.

Iorbo narrated that in the early hours of today(Friday), officers of the Nigeria Police from  “E” Division shot and killed her friend.

She is demanding an immediate investigation into the brutal killing of the innocent lady.

“We are not asking for much, only justice. The officers responsible must be identified and handed over to the state command for immediate and transparent investigation.

“Lives must not continue to be lost at the hands of those sworn to protect us. This must end now.

“As I speak with you, the Police adamantly refuse to speak about the situation”, she lamented.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filling this report, all efforts to get the reaction from the state command Police Public Relations’ Officer, PPRO CSP Catherine Anene proved abortive, even  she claimed to be writing a statement.
