Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has approved the sum of N1 billion earlier pledged as compensation fund and N7 billion for reconstruction of critical infrastructures.
Represented by his deputy Comrade Yakubu Garba at the official flagged off ceremony of distribution of palliative and presentation of cheques to the victims in Mokwa, he said the targeted infrastructures are roads and bridges destroyed by the devastating flood disaster in Mokwa local government area of Niger State.
Governor Bago explained that the flood which occurred in Mokwa town last month claimed 209 lives, displaced 3,534 persons, 458 households affected, 280 houses as well as 31 stalls were lost.
He further explained that each of the affected 458 households will receive one million naira along with 25 bags of assorted grains including 5 bags of maize, sorghum, millet and 5 bags of 50 kg of rice.
