‘Olympic Day Celebration Is A Catalyst For Sports Development, Awareness Creation” – Gov Mbah

The Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah has described Olympic Day Celebration as a catalyst for sports development and awareness creation aimed at enhancing commitment and priority to sports globally

Dr Mbah stated this in Enugu on Saturday during the Olympic Day Celebration held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu, the Governor said the celebration brings athletes, coaches, administrators and stakeholders together to brainstorm on how to promote sports

He noted that the event served as a platform to create awareness for people to embrace routine exercise as a way of living healthy life.

“”The Olympic Day Celebration serves as a spark to ignite our passion for sports development. The State Government has interest in developing both  infrastructure and human resources in this regard.

“”The event is a reminder to make us  keep alive  those responsibilities as stakeholders in sports. It is a celebration of togetherness, our ability to come together as a community, to exercise, engage and recreate  the body and celebrate friendship. You just saw  the happiness and entertainment here.

“Olympic Day Celebration, is a leveler, for all of us. It is a level playing field  for everyone to express himself and to be active. It is really about togetherness,” he noted.

The 2025 Olympic Day Celebration in Enugu which is marked across states in the Federation and around the globe, was held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

The Hon Commissioner led the sports men and women on a 2km walk within the stadium’s vicinity.

The event featured a novelty Volleyball match between Enugu Volleyball teams and Arm Wrestling demonstration contest, by Enugu State Arm Wrestling team as part of activities by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, to entertain sportsmen/women who gathered  at the event.
