The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has joined millions of Nigerians at home and abroad in mourning the passing of Peter Rufai, fondly known as Dodo Mayana, describing him as a true legend of Nigerian football and one of the finest goalkeepers to ever wear the green and white.
The party said this in a statement in Abuja by the spokesperson of the Coalition Movement/ADC, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi.
The ADC declared that Peter Rufai was more than an athlete, stressing that he was a unifier.
According to the statement by Abdullahi, “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) joins millions of Nigerians at home and abroad in mourning the passing of Peter Rufai, fondly known as Dodo Mayana — a true legend of Nigerian football and one of the finest goalkeepers to ever wear the green and white.
“As a giant of African football, Peter Rufai exemplified the brilliance, courage, and determination of the Nigerian spirit,” said the ADC National Spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. “On the field, he was not just a player — he was a symbol of pride for an entire nation.
“With every save, every kick of the ball, and every opportunity he had to play, Rufai represented Nigeria and the Super Eagles with unmatched passion, skill, and grace.
“Today, as we celebrate his remarkable life, we also mourn the passing of a man and a legend whose love for the beautiful game and deep devotion to his country inspired generations,” said the party’s National Publicity Secretary. “He leaves behind an indelible mark on the history of Nigerian football.”
“Peter Rufai was more than an athlete. He was a unifier.
“In times when sports provided hope and brought Nigerians together across all divides, he stood as a beacon of excellence and dignity,” the spokesperson added.
The ADC extended its deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, the Nigerian football community, and all who were touched by his legacy.
“May his memory continue to inspire future generations to strive, to serve, and to shine — just as he did,” the party concluded.
