Northern youth group counters Kwankwaso’s claim of northern neglect under Tinubu

The Northern Youth Frontiers (North West Zone), has refuted recent comments made by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), alleging that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sidelined Northern Nigeria in its development agenda.

In a statement issued on Monday, the North West Coordinator of the group, Saminu Tukur, described Kwankwaso’s claims as misleading and politically motivated, aimed more at triggering controversy than fostering constructive discourse.

Tukur further encouraged young Northerners to support efforts that foster unity, growth, and transparent governance, rather than being used as tools in political battles.

He said: “In light of recent statements made by Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), regarding the alleged neglect of Northern Nigeria by the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Northwest Zone of the Northern Youth Frontiers feels compelled to clarify the facts and set the record straight.

“We recognize the importance of political discourse in our democratic process; however, it is crucial that such discussions are grounded in truth and constructive engagement rather than unfounded claims.

“Kwankwaso’s assertion that the Northern region is being overlooked in terms of development is not only misleading but also appears to be a strategic maneuver aimed at prompting the government to disclose the extensive array of projects that have been initiated or completed in the North under President Tinubu’s leadership.

“This tactic, while not uncommon in the political arena, deserves scrutiny, particularly when it risks sowing discord among the very constituents it purports to represent.”

Tukur noted that President Tinubu’s administration has, over the past two years, implemented a wide range of impactful projects across Northern Nigeria, particularly in critical sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and energy.

He added, “These initiatives are not mere promises; they represent a tangible commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the region. From the construction of new roads and bridges to the enhancement of healthcare facilities and the promotion of agricultural innovation, the federal government has made significant strides in transforming the socio-economic landscape of Northern Nigeria.

“For instance, the ongoing road infrastructure projects aim to improve connectivity and accessibility, which are essential for economic activities and the movement of goods and services.

“The revitalization of agricultural initiatives, including the provision of modern farming equipment and training for farmers, is set to boost productivity and food security in the region. Additionally, investments in healthcare facilities are designed to ensure that citizens have access to quality medical services, thereby enhancing overall well-being.

“It is important to note that the success of these projects hinges on collaboration and transparency. As such, we are confident that Kwankwaso is aware of these developments, and we anticipate that he will soon acknowledge the progress being made.

“However, it is imperative that such recognition does not come at the expense of fostering division among the youth of Northern Nigeria. The potential for political manipulation is ever-present, and we urge the youth to remain vigilant and discerning.

“We call upon the youth of Northern Nigeria to resist the temptation to be used by unscrupulous and desperate politicians who seek to incite unnecessary confrontation with the government. History has shown that such tactics often lead to conflict and strife, diverting attention from the real issues at hand and hindering progress.

“Instead, we encourage the youth to engage in constructive dialogue and to hold their leaders accountable in a manner that promotes unity and development.
As we move forward, it is essential that we collectively recognize the importance of fostering a sense of community and collaboration among all stakeholders in the region.
