Senator Yaroe, BCDA donate medical equipment to border communities in Adamawa

Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe of the Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, has donated healthcare equipment to the Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) kojoli, in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa state.

Senator Yaroe while presenting the equipment to the community at the weekend stated that support was provided by the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), with the aim to improve healthcare delivery for the border communities.

Yaroe, who doubles as the Chairman, Senate Committee on state and local government affairs said the intervention would also be extended to  Fufore border community in the state noting that, the gesture was to ensure residents in such border areas have access to effective and efficient healthcare without crossing into neighbouring Cameroon.

“We are here today to provide healthcare equipment to the kojoli community so they can have access to quality healthcare without having to travel to boader countries like Cameroon in search of healthcare.

“Before now, this facility had good structures but lacked equipments, but With the intervention of BCDA, we now have beds, surgical equipments, and other medical commodities needed to upgrade this centre”, Yaroe said.

Also speaking at the occasion Dr. George Kelly, Executive Secretary of BCDA, said the agency is poised to providing socio-economic infrastructure to underserved border communities around the country.

Represented by the Director of Special Duties Health, Education and Social Services of the agency, Mrs. Roselyn Abuh.Kelly stressed that 3000 settlements in 105 local government areas across 21 states have been earmarked for the intervention.

“Many of these communities are neglected. In the 2025 budget, provision was made for medical equipment for health centres in border areas.

“They are the first line of defence. They must be taken care of. Otherwise, if they need to cross over to our neighbouring country to get such facilities, their patriotism will be to them, not their country.

“This is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure no part of the country is left behind”,  Kelly said.

He added that apart from health facilities, the agency also provides schools, water projects, empowerment programmes, and is working with the Ministry of Power to deploy mini-grids to border communities.

Items donated to Kajoli PHCC includes ; hospital beds, mattresses, operating tables, surgical facilities, wheelchairs and sterilizing equipments among others.

In his response, the District Head of Kajoli, Alhaji Kabiru Hayatu commended the senator and the Agency for the intervention, assuring that the items would be put to proper use for the benefit of the people.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs Mercy Dauda, Permanent Secretary, Adamawa State Boundary Commission, lauded the gesture, noting that the provision of healthcare closer to the people would reduce risks faced by pregnant women and emergency cases in remote areas.

Similarly, Mrs Helen Shamaki, Executive Secretary, Jada Local Government Primary Healthcare Authority, described the intervention as timely and pledged that the equipment would be properly maintained.

Also, Mr. Muktar Hamman, Facility Manager, Kajoli PHCC, said the provision of the items, alongside additional medical personnel, had upgraded the centre to a cottage hospital capable of handling emergencies and surgical cases.

“With the provision of the medical equipment by the Agency and A medical doctor and healthcare personnel  provided by our Senator, the facility is now upgraded to a cottage hospital.

“This will enable us to gain more experience and handle emergency and surgical cases especially for the people  as well as our border communities like the Cameroonians.
