The Chairman of the Petroleum, Environment and Solid Minerals Degradation Awareness Association (PESMDAA), Dr Robert Adah, has said that the forthcoming International Conference on Petroleum, Environment, Solid Minerals and Security (ICPESMS 2025) will focus on combating environmental degradation and insecurity in Nigeria’s extractive sectors.
Speaking at a pre-conference briefing in Abuja on Sunday, Dr Adah explained that the conference theme, “Sustainable Resource Development and Security Stability in the Extractive Sectors,” reflects Nigeria’s urgent need to manage its natural wealth responsibly.
The event is scheduled for 9 September 2025 at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Lungi Barracks, Abuja.
He said ” It is expected to draw participants from government agencies, security institutions, industry leaders, academia, civil society, and international partners.
Dr Adah warned that while petroleum and solid minerals are vital to the economy, their exploitation often fuels insecurity, unrest, and environmental harm.
“The extractive sectors provide jobs and revenue, but without sustainability and stability, their benefits cannot last,” he said.
The conference will explore strategies to balance resource development with environmental protection, promote investment and innovation, and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.
PESMDAA also urged the media to amplify the conference’s objectives to ensure that its outcomes influence policy and practice.
“We look forward to practical solutions that will safeguard the environment, enhance security, and secure Nigeria’s future,” Dr Adah said.
