Some residents of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have slammed the Treasurer of the Area Council, Mr. Mohammed Sani over the purported conferment of award by the School of Postgraduate Studies of the University of Abuja.
They alleged that the Council’s inreasurer did not worth merit award bestowed on him by the University, as they argued that he had done nothing to improve the socio-economic growth of the Area Council.
Some of residents who spoke separately to Peoples Daily respondent in Gwagwalada, noted that the Treasurer was only committed to financial affairs of the Council in order to enrich himself.
A resident, Mr. Yahaya Mamudu, pointed out that the Treasurer had failed to do the needful in the area of financial prudence of the council.
Another resident, Mr. Audu Yaro, alleged that despite the revenue being generated from the various markets in the area, the Treasurer had not utilized the finances of the council wisely in terms of development.
For a businessman from Zuba fruits market, who identified himself to be Zubairu Musa, urged the treasurer as the Head of finance of the council to make good use of the revenue generated to repair the market for a better outlook.
On his part, a staff of the council who spoke on the condition of
anonymity, also accused the treasurer of being pompous and arrogant towards the workers, noting that the treasurer only respects the political aides to the chairman and some elected politicians.
However, several efforts made to see the treasurer to react to some of the issues raised against him proved abortive, as the treasurer closed his office during working hours.
