A coalition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups in Jigawa State has accused the party’s National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Usman Gumel, over alleged anti-party activities.
The coalition, led by its Chairman, Engr. Saidu Ibrahim Uba, disclosed this in a statement.
The coalition alleged that Mr. Gumel attended and actively participated in an “unauthorized political gathering” in Kafin-Hausa Town on August 31, 2025. The meeting, according to the group, was organized by “disgruntled individuals, including elements from the opposition,” under the guise of celebrating an award for one Zakari Kafin-Hausa.
The coalition stated that inflammatory and derogatory remarks were made at the gathering against the state governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, FCA, and other party leaders. It further alleged that Mr. Gumel “openly pledged allegiance to an individual rather than the APC as an institution,” an action which reportedly provoked unrest, leading to injuries and destruction of property.
According to the statement, “We condemn in the strongest terms the irresponsible behavior of Bashir Usman Gumel, which is unbefitting of a national party officer,” the statement read. “His actions have caused public unrest, disunity, and embarrassment to our great party.”
The group drew attention to provisions of the APC constitution, citing breaches of Article 21 A (vi), (vii), and (x), which prohibit acts capable of bringing the party into disrepute, disobedience to lawful directives, and promotion of factionalism.
While the controversial gathering was taking place in Kafin-Hausa, Governor Namadi and the entire APC state leadership were in Kaugama Local Government Area for the “Government and Her Citizens Engagement Programme,” a grassroots outreach aimed at strengthening citizen participation and development initiatives.
The coalition called on the APC National Leadership to immediately investigate the matter and take disciplinary action in accordance with the party’s constitution.
“We urge the party to reinforce internal discipline and loyalty, and reaffirm the supremacy of party structures and leadership, especially at the state level,” the coalition added.
The group, however, reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC leadership and Governor Umar Namadi, noting that his developmental strides and inclusive governance continue to uplift Jigawa State.
However, all efforts to reach Mr. Bashir proved abortive as he did not pick calls and did not reply to texts sent to him.
