Sallah: Council chair urges Muslims, Christians to embrace peace

The chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),  Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has called on both Muslims and Christians to live in peace with each other, irrespective of their religious inclinations.

Giri, who made the call in an interview with newsmen during the Sallah celebrations yesterday in Giri, noted that with peace, Nigeria could move to the next level.

He also appealed to followers of the two major religious beliefs to continue to pray for peace to reign in the country for the betterment of her people.

He specifically pleaded with the Muslim faithful to celebrate Sallah in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

While commenting on the abducted Chibok girls, still in the dreaded terror group, the Boko Haram in Borno State, the Chairman urged the Federal Government to dialogue with the insurgents, in order to ensure that the girls are released.

Speaking on the same vein, the former Chairman of Gwagwalad Area Council, Hon, Zakari Angulu Dobi urged citizens to love one another irrespective of their tribal, political and religious affiliations.

He further called on Muslims and Christians to come together to pray for the peaceful co-existence of all and sundry, pointing out that the country is in dire need of prayer at all times.

He advised the youth in the area to celebrate Sallah within the tenets of the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, while warning them against engaging in anti-social behaviours.

Dobi also appealed to the politicians to shun politics of do-or-die affair for the overall development of the FCT and country as a whole.
