Ahead of the 2026 National Sports Festival (NSF), the National Sports Commission (NSC), will embark on a four-day inspection of facilities in Enugu State.
NSC and officials in Nigeria’s sports sector are expected spend four days from 21 to 24 October to assess the facilities ahead of the Games.
Very senior officers of the country’s sports governing body will be part of the inspectors which is part of preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged “Coal City Games 2026.”
The inspection of facilities is a crucial step in ensuring standards and that the Festival delivers on its promise of being a world-class sporting event that celebrates: excellence, unity and talent development
The inspection team will among other things, assess existing infrastructure, review progress on upgrades, renovations/construction and engage with local stakeholders to guarantee that Enugu is ready to host athletes and fans from all over the country.
The Commission expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Government for its commitment to delivering a successful festival, noting that their dedication reflects the true spirit of partnership needed to elevate Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
The National Sports Festival is Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event, serving as a breeding ground for champions and a symbol of national unity.
The NSC reaffirmed its commitment to working hand in hand with Enugu State to deliver a festival that will inspire the nation and leave a lasting legacy.
After the inspection, the delegation to the Cool City is expected to submit a detailed report on their findings which the NSC will deliberate on and see if there is a strong and valid reasons to activate its plan B for the Festival.
