The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have called on the Federal Government to deem it necessary to pay N50 billion earned allowances owing the Unions.
The Chairman of SSANU/JAC of the University of Abuja, Comrade Nurudeen Yusuf, who made this call while addressing the newsmen during a one-day national protest of JAC at the main campus of the University, also urged the government to pay their accumulated arrears of 25% and 30% wage award.
He further charged the Federal Government to pay the two months
outstanding salaries of their members in order to boost their morale in the University at all times.
He said: “The non-remittance of Third-Party deductions for two months further worsening staff welfare and undermining private financial commitments, and called on the government to do something about it”.
The Chairman, however, expressed dismay the manner at which “the Federal Government’s continued failure to renegotiate the 2009 agreements with SSANU and NASU, leaving our members demands unaddressed in the face of inflation and decaying infrastructure”.
Speaking earlier, the National President of NASU, Dr. Makolo Hassan, pleaded with the Federal Government to pay the outstanding arrears of non-teaching staff across Nigerian universities.
On her part, the Chairman of NASU at the University of Abuja, Comrade Sadiya Hassan, revealed that plans are underway by the Unions to call for indefinite strike if the government fails to meet up with their demands.
