Fourth female bomber kills three in Kano

Another female suicide bombe, the fourth in the last few days, blew herself at the Kano state polytechnic along Bayero University Kano (BUK) road, killing herself and two other persons, while seven others sustained injuries on Wednesday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness account, the suicide bomber, a teenager detonated the Improvised Explosive device (IED), she was carrying at the administrative block of the institution, where students gathered in large numbers.

The witness added that the crowd comprised mostly of outgoing students that were checking their names for the mandatory national youth service on the notice board when the suicide bomber struck.

Confirming the attack, the Kano state Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Musa Magaji Majiya, said the suicide bomber a teenager, blew herself killing two students on the spot while seven others sustained injuries.

Majiya called on the public to be more vigilant and alert to the new tactics being executed by terrorists who now use teenagers to carryout suicide attacks.

It could be recalled that yesterday’s incident makes it the fourth female suicide attack carried out in Kano in a space of four days, opening a new dimension to the crisis in the state.

Meanwhile, the Tudun Wada Community in Funtua town in Funtua Local Government in Katsina State in the late hours of Tuesday foiled an attempted suicide bombing by a man and his two female accomplices.

According to an eyewitness, the suicide bomber and his accomplices were riding on a CRV Jeep early Tuesday around 10:00 pm, when stopped by police along Zaria road for a routine check.

The suspected bombers, however, escaped leaving behind one of their members.

The witness who simply identified himself as Babangida said they were relaxing by the road side around 10:20 pm when they saw a man in a car riding in a high speed approaching their area, and when he got to their location, he came out of the car holding a 15 year old girl.

He then requested for a motorcycle operator to carry him, saying that the police were on his trail and that he is ready to pay any amount.

Babangida, said when the motorcycle operator refused to take him, the alleged bomber started running, abandoning the vehicle, the action led to suspicion of his motive and they started chasing him.

He said “when i reached him I use a wooden stick to bring him down. As the girl attempted to escape I also hacked her down and on checking her chest I saw a vest connected with some wires. I took courage and cut the wires and pulled it from her chest and threw it away”
