NSCDC deploys 10,250 operatives for Anambra guber election

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has announced the deployment of 10,250 operatives to ensure a peaceful and violence-free governorship election in Anambra State scheduled for Saturday, November 8.

According to a statement Thursday in Abuja, by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, the operatives include tactical units drawn from the Corps’ National Headquarters, as well as formations in Zone 13, Awka, and neighbouring states such as Edo, Kogi, Imo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Bayelsa.

Prof. Audi, while addressing State Commandants and Heads of Tactical Squads, said the deployment is part of the Corps’ strategic collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, which is the lead agency in election security. He emphasized the importance of coordination, cooperation, and collaboration among security agencies to achieve credible and peaceful polls.

The Commandant General cautioned political actors against making inflammatory remarks or engaging in actions capable of inciting violence before, during, or after the election.

“All intelligence and undercover personnel are to man identified flashpoints immediately. Tactical forces must maintain round-the-clock patrol, while operatives at polling units and collation centres must strictly adhere to the posting order,” Audi directed.

He reiterated that, in line with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) resolution, the NSCDC and other security agencies will provide security for election materials, officials, and voters across the state. He urged personnel to remain professional and respect the fundamental rights of citizens while discharging their duties.

Prof. Audi assured residents of Anambra State that the Corps is committed to ensuring a peaceful election without disruptions.
