Anas bin Malik (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah Muhammad (SAW) said:
“Allah is pleased with His slave who says: ‘Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah)’ when he takes a morsel of food and drinks a draught of water.” (Muslim)
When and why to say:
Say it when you receive a blessing, like good health, a new opportunity, or a personal success.
Showing contentment:
It can be used to express thankfulness for your overall life, as in “Alhamdulillah for another day.
Acknowledging difficulties:
It is also used to express acceptance during hard times, acknowledging that difficulties are a test and are part of God’s plan.
As a response to “How are you?”:
It is common to say “Alhamdulillah” when asked how you are, as a way of giving thanks for your well-being.
In prayer:
The phrase is a central part of Islamic prayer (Salat), as it is repeated in every cycle of the first chapter of the Qur’an, Al-Fatiha.
