The Ogun State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) has condemned the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, over alleged impersonation and misconduct involving Students’ Union Government (SUG) presidents across tertiary institutions in the state.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Gabriel Abiola Francis (Solution), and General Secretary, Comrade Adelola Hezekiah Babatunde (Easy), the council described the actions of the governor’s aide as “criminal, irresponsible, and a direct assault on the democratic rights of Nigerian students.”
NANS Ogun JCC alleged that Amoo issued a “petty and misleading” press statement while fraudulently posing as the collective voice of SUG presidents in the state, an act they described as an attempt to defend what they termed his “dubious and anti-student activities.”
The council warned that such behaviour undermines the integrity and autonomy of student leadership and risks tarnishing the image of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
“It is embarrassing, shambolic and unbefitting of any office claiming to represent student welfare,” the statement read.
NANS further accused the governor’s aide of a recurring pattern of intimidation and undue pressure on student leaders, adding that his decision to impersonate SUG presidents followed failed attempts to coerce them into supporting his agenda.
“This reckless and undemocratic act violates the sanctity of student leadership structures across Ogun State,” the council said.
The association called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently caution his aide, insisting that students in the state deserve leaders who embody truth, fairness and transparency.
The statement was jointly endorsed by the chairmen and SUG presidents of various tertiary institutions, including DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Tai Solarin University of Education, and the Federal College of Education.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and the continued progress of the state.
