Ex Niger Gov, Babangida bemoans insecurity in the North despite number of govs

Date:

A former Governor Babangida Aliyu has bemoaned the insecurity ravaging the northern part of the country, saying there is an urgent need to improve security across Nigeria.
“The North now has 19 sardaunas but lacks the peace and order once associated with the late premier of Northern Nigeria,” he said.
Aliyu is the Chairman of the board of trustees of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, at a dinner organised by the foundation in Kaduna to celebrate his 70th birthday.
The former Niger governor said the rising spate of killings, kidnappings, and general insecurity was unacceptable.
“Today, we have 19 sardaunas in name, but what are we hearing now? The level of insecurity, particularly in recent times, is troubling,” Mr Aliyu said. “Anytime you come to construct flyovers or whatever may be infrastructure, but your core responsibility is to protect the lives of the people.”
