Group Threatens Protest Over Unfulfilled Promise of 2 Million Electric Tricycles

Members of the Nineteen Seventeen Northern Consensus Movement (NSNCM) gathered to express their frustration over a broken promise from the federal government.

The group, which identifies as a peace, unity, empowerment, and development initiative, stated that the commitment to deliver two million electric tricycles—made through the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NATOMORAS)—has not been met.

The NSNCM explained that the federal government, in partnership with NATOMORAS, established a Directorate of Community Transport under the leadership of Usman Gwoza, the national president of NATOMORAS.

Registration forms were distributed to members of the movement based on the promise of the two million tricycles, and a registration fee was collected with the understanding that the federal government would cover 50 percent of the cost. At the same time, the registrants would pay the remaining 50 percent.

Recently, the tricycles were officially launched. Usman Gwoza, representing the NSNCM at the event, lamented that no funds had been transferred to NATOMORAS by the campaign council, despite the money spent during the campaign.

Since then, members have been demanding the delivery of the promised vehicles. The agitation has intensified, leading to the arrests of some members and leaders, court cases, and intimidation, forcing several activists to flee their homes.

The group is now calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure that the two million electric tricycles are released to Usman Gwoza for distribution to all registered members.

They have given the government a deadline of ten working days, stating that if the tricycles are not delivered by Monday, December 15, 2025, the NSNCM will mobilize the two million registrants for peaceful protests.

The NSNCM, which consists of 598 registered associations, notes that NATOMORAS is one of its member organizations. Usman Gwoza also serves as the director of contact and mobilization for the NSNCM, and every member of the movement has registered for an electric tricycle.

The statement emphasizes that the commitment was made through the Community Transport Department of the Presidential Campaign Council. The NSNCM played a crucial role in delivering votes from the 19 northern states to President Tinubu during the 2023 campaign.

In a warning that “two million votes in 2027 is not a joke,” the group reminded the president that no politician would want to overlook such a large electoral bloc. “We are with the government and supporters of President Bola Tinubu,” the statement reads, “and we expect the promise to be fulfilled.”

Dr. Abdullahi reiterated that the NSNCM would lead a peaceful demonstration if the tricycles are not released by December 15 and urged the federal government to act swiftly.
