The Labour Party, (LP), in Sokoto State has elected a new State Executive Council, pledging to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), in the 2027 general elections.
The congress, held on Saturday at the party Secretariat along Kano Road, brought together delegates from across the state for what organisers described as a peaceful and well-coordinated exercise.
Chairman of the Congress Planning Committee, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, commended members for their discipline and commitment, describing the successful event as a sign of renewed strength within the party.
He stated that the LP is fully prepared to contest the 2027 polls and promised to “dismantle the bad governance and maladministration” associated with the APC.
Speaking at the event, a party chieftain, Efanyi Ezeagwu recalled the party’s significant victories in Lagos and Abuja during the 2023 elections but alleged that internal manipulations affected outcomes.
He vowed that such interference would not be tolerated in 2027.
Ezeagwu urged Nigerians to vote for the Labour Party, describing it as a platform committed to improving citizens’ welfare and dignity.
He also criticised the current administration over worsening economic conditions and insecurity, claiming that governance under the APC benefits only “friends, family and party loyalists.”
Those elected into the new State Executive Council include: Abubakar Yawale as State Chairman, Alhaji Saidu Ahmad Muhammad as Vice Chairman, Nura Abubakar as State Secretary, Aisha Mukhtar as Women Leader, Oke A. Jikan Shehu as Treasurer, Jamilu Adamu as State Organizing Secretary, Abubakar Musa as Publicity Secretary, and several others including deputy chairmen representing Sokoto Central, East, and South.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Yawale thanked delegates and supporters for their confidence, pledging an inclusive leadership.
“I will operate an open-door system, where every loyal member can make suggestions or lodge complaints at any time,” he said, emphasising that the party is focused on rebuilding and positioning itself for success in 2027 and future elections.
