As some soccer analysts continue to frown over the list of Super Eagles players for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has denied allegations that he interfered with the selection the players by insisting that certain names should be included.
Recall that the release of the Super Eagles’ final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations by Technical Adviser, Eric Chelle has attracted huge debate and criticism among analysts, fans, sports journalists and other concerned stakeholders.
But, Gusau has denied influencing the list, saying he has never interfered in any team selection of not just the Super Eagles but all the other National twams.
The NFF President who was speaking on Eagles FM Radio, stated that all the coaches are given full autonomy to select their squads without any interference or pressure from the NFF.
He said;, “I have never told any coach of any of our national teams, any player that they should select or not select”.
According to him, the NFF respects the independence of the technical crew and only provides the necessary support to ensure the teams are well prepared for international engagements.
