Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Labour Party led by Senator Nenadi Usman has unveiled a schedule of activities aimed at attracting 10 million new and re-registered members into the party.

Inaugurating the national steering committee for membership revalidation, new registration and unveiling of the nationwide membership mobilisation drive tagged Labour Party connect 10 million Nigerians, the party disclosed that the move which kick-started on 17 December, will be followed by a World Congress slated for 13 January 2026.

This will be followed by local government congress set for January 17, state congress on 24 January, zonal congress scheduled for January 31, and the national convention which would take place on 28 February 2026.

Interim National Chairman, Sen. Nenadi Usman who was speaking through Zoom to members during the event which held at LP National Secretariat in Abuja, stressed that the party “considers it both necessary and strategic to reposition, reorganize and strengthen itself for the bigger responsibilities and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Sen. Usman further revealed that her leadership had considered expanding and consolidating the party’s membership base as one of her foremost priorities.

Nevertheless she regretted that the crisis which rocked the LP was capable of hindering the party from realizing such objective.

“However, with the launch today and the newly approved timetable, I am confident that we will not only recover lost ground but emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the task ahead,” she added.

Usman added, “As we are all aware, our party – like many opposition political platforms in Nigeria – has, in recent times, passed through a period of intense challenges and distractions. I am pleased to state that the majority of these issues have been decisively resolved by the courts, while the few remaining matters are still before the judiciary. We remain confident that they too will soon be conclusively settled in the interest of justice and democracy.

“I therefore call on all existing members of our great party to take full advantage of this exercise to revalidate their membership. I also warmly invite all Nigerians of goodwill, especially those who believe in good governance, social justice, accountability, and people-oriented leadership, to seize this opportunity to register and formally become members of the Labour Party.

“As clearly outlined in the schedule of activities, this exercise will run from now through to 20th January, 2026, across all wards, LGAs and states of the Federation

In conclusion, I urge you all to continue to place your hope and confidence in the Labour Party as the vehicle for rescuing our nation from the shackles of poor leadership and restoring dignity, opportunity, and prosperity to the Nigerian people.”

In his remarks, Chairman of the steering committee and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, described the 10 million membership drive as “not merely a numerical target. This is a national call to action. The aim is to strengthen democracy and give a voice to the aspiration of our people.”

He said the moment is historic not only for our party, but for Nigerians, adding that the committee will focus on building a Labour Party that is inclusive, democratic, transparent, and responsive to the needs and hopes of all Nigerians, regardless of background or location.

“Through the work of the National Steering Committee, we will engage citizens across the length and breadth of our nation. We will listen attentively to their concerns, inspire confidence, and work collectively to build the basic and deep prosperity of Nigeria.

This initiative marks a renewed focus on grassroots mobilization,” he stated.
