ATBU Disowns Fake Circular on Resumption, Fees

Date:

The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has dissociated itself from a fake circular allegedly issued by the institution, directing parents and guardians to pay certain fees ahead of students’ resumption.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Director of Information and Communications, Zailani Bappa, said the university had observed the circulation of a circular on social media platforms purportedly released by the Registry of the institution.

According to Bappa, the circular falsely claimed that the university would reopen on Friday, January 2, 2026, and demanded the payment of N80,000 as accommodation fees. He noted that the document, dated December 29, 2025, also carried a forged signature of the University Registrar, Alhaji Kabiru Garba Aminu.

He stressed that the management had completely disowned the circular and distanced itself from its content and intent.

Bappa urged parents, guardians and other stakeholders to disregard the fake notice, clarifying that the official resumption date for returning students remains Monday, January 5, 2026, while new students are expected to resume on Monday, January 12, 2026, as approved in the Senate academic calendar for the 2025/2026 session.

He further stated that the university had neither reviewed nor planned to review registration or accommodation fees for both new and returning students.

The management wished students a safe return and a successful academic year.
