LG Electronics Nigeria has raised the alarm over the circulation of counterfeit television sets in the country, warning consumers to be vigilant to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
The company said it was disturbed by online videos showing unauthorised individuals packaging non-LG television sets in fake LG-branded cartons and labels, with the intention of deceiving unsuspecting buyers.
LG stressed that the counterfeit products were neither manufactured nor distributed by the company or any of its approved dealers, noting that they pose serious risks to consumers.
According to the firm, such fake televisions often deliver substandard performance and may expose users to electrical hazards, while offering no access to LG’s warranty or after-sales support.
The Public Relations Manager of LG Electronics Nigeria, Moses Osime, said the development was a source of concern for the company, particularly because of the potential danger to Nigerian households.
“We are deeply concerned by the spread of these counterfeit TVs and the potential harm to Nigerian families,” Osime said.
“At LG, consumer safety and product quality are our top priorities. We remain dedicated to providing our customers with genuine products and ensuring their peace of mind.”
To curb the menace, LG advised consumers to purchase its televisions only from authorised dealers and recognised retail outlets across the country.
The company also urged buyers to check for original LG factory seals, accurate model information, serial numbers and official warranty cards before completing any purchase.
“If a price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Register and verify your LG product at https://www.lg.com/africa/support/product-validation or contact our customer service team.”
LG cautioned that unusually cheap prices should serve as a red flag, warning that deals that appear too good to be true are often linked to counterfeit products.
Consumers were further advised to register and verify their LG products through the company’s official product validation platform or contact its customer service channels for confirmation.
LG Electronics Nigeria said it appreciated the trust and vigilance of its customers, reaffirming its commitment to keeping the public informed and upholding high standards of quality, safety and reliability in the Nigerian market.
