The Kano People’s Rights Alliance has urged a former Kano State governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, to refrain from making allegations against the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The group said it was reacting to comments attributed to Kwankwaso on his social media platforms, in which he alleged that the Kano State Government was influencing state officials and local government chairmen to defect to the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, the alliance described the claims as unsubstantiated and called for restraint in political engagements within the state.

Tofa said such statements, if not backed by verifiable evidence, could heighten political tension and distract from governance and democratic processes.

He added that political leaders, particularly those with large followings, had a responsibility to promote calm and constructive dialogue, especially given Kano’s complex political environment.

According to the group, the political space should encourage issue-based engagement and healthy competition rather than exchanges that could deepen divisions among supporters.

The alliance urged Kwankwaso to reflect on the wider implications of public statements and to adopt approaches that foster understanding and unity among Kano residents.

KPRA further noted that the Kano State Government had repeatedly expressed commitment to democratic principles and the maintenance of peace, stressing that allegations against public institutions should be handled through appropriate legal and constitutional channels.

The group also appealed to other political actors in the state to prioritise stability and the collective interest of Kano over partisan considerations.

It called on residents to rely on credible information sources and remain calm as political activities continue to unfold in the state.
