The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, (ADSIEC), has started the screening of candidates for local government elections scheduled for July 11, across the state’s 21 local government areas.
Peoples Daily reports that the tenure of the current council officials, elected on July 13, 2024 will end on July 12.
The screening exercise which currently involves candidates from the African Democratic Congress, (ADC), and the Social Democratic Party, (SDP), will continue with other participating parties, including the big two: the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state, and the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Chairman of ADSIEC, Alhaji Muhammed Madagali, has reassured political parties and their candidates of the Commission’s commitment to fairness and strict adherence to the law.
“All necessary preparations have been concluded ahead of the screening, including the verification of candidates’ documents and adequate security arrangements to ensure an orderly process,” he said.
He urged all participants to comply with the electoral guidelines and cooperate fully with officials to guarantee a successful exercise.
