Eto’o Calls For CAF’s Reform

Date:

Cameroon football legend and CAF Executive Member, Samuel Eto’o has praised Senegal for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) success, describing the Teranga Lions’ victory as fully deserved.
The four time African Footballer of the Year also called for improvements within African football institutions following incidents that marred the final between Senegal and Morocco on Sunday.
Speaking after the AFCON final, Eto’o congratulated both the Senegalese players and their supporters, commending the collective effort that powered the team to continental glory.
“First of all, allow me to congratulate Senegal, who truly deserve their victory, both the players and the supporters. This group went out and earned its win,” Eto’o said.
While celebrating Senegal’s achievement, the former African Footballer of the Year acknowledged that the final was overshadowed by unsavoury incidents, stressing that lessons must be learned to prevent a repeat.
“Regarding the incidents during the match that marked this final, we are going to work to improve our institution so that we no longer have such images, because I believe everything that happened could have been avoided,” he added.
Eto’o also singled out Senegal’s technical bench for praise, noting that the team’s success was a product of tactical discipline and resilience.
“Senegal deserves its victory. The coach fought for his team and it paid off,” he said.
Unsurprisingly, Eto’o reserved special words for Senegal influential player, Sadio Mane, hailing the forward as one of Africa’s greatest-ever players and expressing hope that further global recognition lies ahead.
“Sadio Mane is a great player and an African legend. I wish to see him win Ballon d’Or,” Eto’o stated.
Senegal’s AFCON triumph further cements their status as a dominant force in African football, with Eto’o’s comments reflecting both admiration for the champions and a renewed commitment by CAF to safeguard the image and integrity of the continent’s flagship tournament.
