A new set of leaders has been sworn in for the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The new executives comprise leaders of factions that had made contrasting claims to leadership during the months of internal division that rocked the party in the state.
Long-standing chairman Yohannah Shehu leads the new team as chairman, with Mohammed Suleiman as deputy chairman, Zubairu Ishaq as secretary, and Japhet Pamassa as assistant secretary.
A caretaker chairman until the new arrangement, Malam Saidu Komsiri was sworn in as the new State Organising Secretary, with Yakubu Hamza to assist him, while Alhaji Ali Muhammad is treasurer and Mrs Alheri Hycent deputy treasurer.
The 44-member State Executive Council also includes Sadam Bororo as financial secretary, Aisha Dambo as assistant financial secretary, Moses Thakur as publicity secretary with Yusuf Abdullahi to assist him, as well as Hassan Isa as legal adviser, among other executives.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the new executives during the harmonisation and swearing-in of the new ADC Adamawa State Executive Council in Yola, the organising secretary, Saidu Komsiri, said it is notable that the party in the state, which went through “a very challenging period,” has come to “this moment of reconciliation, unity, and renewed strength.”
He said the new executives appreciate the party’s national leader, Atiku Abubakar, for his fatherly intervention and the role he played in the reconciliation process.
Inferring that the conflict over state leadership has now been settled, Komsiri said, “The understanding agreement reached and signed by all parties is a testament that ADC Adamawa has chosen reconciliation over rancour, unity over division, and progress over personal interest.”
He asked members of the new executive to see their positions not as a reward but as a call to selfless service.
“We are entrusted with the responsibility to rebuild confidence, strengthen our party structures, mobilise our grassroots, and prepare ADC Adamawa for greater victories ahead,” Komsiri said.
