Sardauna foundation trains 150 Sokoto women, youths on vocational skills

About 150 women and youths are to undergo entrepreneurship training in Sokoto state to enable them be self-relian and create job opportunities.

The vocational training was organised by Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, an organisation institutionalized in honour of the late Northern Premier, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna Sokoto.

Speaking at the  flagged off ceremony, the Chaiman, Advisory Council of the foundation, Hon. Justice Mamman Nasir (rtd.) GCON said it is an intervention programme designed to develop the capacities of women and youths on entrepreneurship and production skills in various trades.

He added that the training is to create jobs and promote self-reliance by encouraging the starting of productivity and sustainable micro, as well as small scale enterprises with capacity for expansion.

His words: “We consider this programme very significant because however our access to resources, if we cannot turn that into wealth, the grow it over time to benefit a lot more people, such resource will eventually be a wasted resource.”

He described entrepreneurs as very critical for prosperity and economic wellbeing of the nation, adding that the foundation was formed to help translate such belief into reality among women and youth of the northern region for common good.

The elderstaeman recall that the foundation was established in 2009 by friends, associates and well wishers of the late Northern Premier and was aimed to promote his exemplary ideals and leadership.

Also speaking, the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, lauded the foundation for fast track sustainable socio-economic development of Sokoto state, the north and that of the nation in general.

Wamakko who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Sahabi Isah Gada  said his administration holds entrepreneurship development with high priority and believed that thescheme has the potential of harnessing the talents in the participants.

He explained that his administration had embarked on a number of programmes and projects relating to entrepreneurship development and believed that foundation’s contribution would complement the efforts of the government in achieving the desired objectives.

In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of the foundation, Dr. Shettima Alli said Sokoto state government remained the largest contributor to the foundation.
