Reps sound alarm over Killing of 6 persons, abduction of 20 in Gombe’s Akko Communities

The House of Representatives on Wednesday raised alarm over the persistent banditry attacks on several communities in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, which led to the killing of six persons and the abduction of 20 others.
The House in a motion moved by Hon. Bello Usman Kumo, who informed the House of recent attacks by armed bandits on Garin Galadima, Pindiga, Garin Jaji, Laro, and other neighbouring communities, decreied the attacks that led to the destruction of properties, triggering widespread fear and displacement of residents from their homes.
Lawmakers further noted that the repeated assaults have resulted in loss of livelihoods, destruction of properties, and deepening uncertainty across the affected communities.
The House expressed concern that the incidents are a stark reminder of the growing threat to national security and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to adequately protect lives and property. It warned that failure to take decisive action contradicts the provisions of Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), particularly Section 14(2)(b), which states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
The House called on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to urgently direct the Chief of Defence Staff to commence a coordinated joint security operation, including aerial surveillance and ground support, to flush out the bandits and dismantle their camps.
The House equally urged the Inspector-General of Police to deploy Mobile Police Force squadrons to restore law and order in the affected areas.
It’s Observe a minute of silence in honour of those killed during the bandit attacks in Akko LGA of Gombe State, urging the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to immediately provide relief materials to victims in the affected communities.
It’s mandated the House Committees on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Defence, Army, Air Force, Police, and Legislative Compliance to monitor compliance and submit weekly reports to the House until the security situation is brought under control.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and called for swift and decisive action to prevent further loss of lives in Akko communities.
