The Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Executive Chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, to reverse recent appointments of executive directors at the agency.
The group made the call on Monday during a peaceful protest at the NRS headquarters in Abuja,on Monday.
Its leader, Amande M. Solomon, said the appointments breached provisions of the Nigerian Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025.
“We are calling on the Executive Chairman and the President, who respects constitutional provisions, to revert the earlier appointments and make fresh ones that reflect states that are due,” Solomon said.
He warned that the coalition would return in two weeks for a “total lockdown” protest if its demands were not met.
Solomon said the group was speaking for “voiceless Nigerians” who were watching what he described as manipulation of due process in public appointments.
According to him, five of the six executive directors were appointed in violation of Part IV, Section 17(1) of the NRS Act 2025, which requires the directors to represent the six geopolitical zones on a rotational basis among states in alphabetical order.
The section also stipulates that the executive chairman and an executive director must not come from the same state.
The coalition alleged that the appointments announced and recently inaugurated did not meet these criteria.
It cited examples, claiming that in the North Central, a nominee from Niger State was appointed instead of Benue; in the North West, Kano was picked instead of Jigawa; and in the North East, Borno replaced Adamawa.
The group also alleged similar deviations in the South West and South East zones.
“We cannot fold our arms while a few individuals subvert our common heritage,” Solomon said.
He added that the coalition would mobilise nationwide peaceful protests if the alleged breaches were not corrected.
The NRS and the Presidency had not responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
