Ramadan Lecture: Cleric tasks Muslim faithful on charity donation

An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Tajudeen Taiwo, has urged Muslim faithful to continue donating toward the cause of Allah, saying charity donation with sincerity attracts manifold rewards.
Taiwo gave the advice on Saturday at the 31st Annual Ramadan Lecture of Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch.
The lecture has ithe theme “Learning the Religion Beyond its Adherents: A Critical Examination of Islamic Teachings Independent of Muslim Practice”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event attracted eminent personalities, policymakers and members of the Muslim Ummah who gathered not only for reflection but also for renewed commitment to faith-driven nation building.
Taiwo charged Muslims to invest in the hereafter through sustained charitable donations, particularly in the building of mosques.
Describing charity as a divine investment that guarantees eternal reward, the cleric
cited Quranic injunctions on spending in the cause of Allah, explaining that charity donation with sincerity attracts manifold rewards.
He called on Muslims to see the Ansar-ud-Deen’s mosque project as an opportunity to lay a lasting legacy that transcends worldly recognition.
Taiwo urged the faithful to distinguish between the perfection of Islam and the shortcomings of its followers.
In a thought-provoking discourse, the cleric dwelt extensively on the transient nature of worldly possessions, reminding worshippers that life and material wealth are fleeting.
“Whatever we acquire in this world remains behind when we return to our Creator,” he admonished.
He stressed that true success lies in deeds that endure beyond the grave.
He specifically highlighted the ongoing remodelling project of the Ansar-ud-Deen Mosque in Abuja, urging members and well-wishers to donate generously towards its completion.
According to him, contributing to the construction of a mosque is not merely a physical act but a spiritual investment.
“Whoever builds a house for Allah has secured a house in the hereafter,” he declared.
He noted that such charity qualifies as Sadaqah Jariyah — a continuous charity whose rewards multiply even after death.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Society’s Branch Chairman, Mohammed Olayiwola, described the lecture’s theme as timely and profound, reiterating that Islam remains perfect even when adherents falter in practice.
He thanked members and donors whose past contributions enabled the establishment of a Computer-Based Test Centre within the mosque premises, which has successfully hosted examinations for JAMB and other organisations.
He appealed for renewed support for the mosque’s expansion and structural upgrade to enhance comfort and dignity for worshippers.
Beyond spiritual exhortations, the event also provided a platform for civic engagement and national reflection.(NAN)
