The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 staff members as part of its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, reinforcing its commitment to career progression, institutional continuity, and organizational stability.
The decision, according to an INEC bulletin on Tuesday, was taken at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, 26th February 2026.
At the Directorate level (GL 16–17), a total of 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to the rank of Directors.
Of this number, 18 will continue in active service, while 27 are due for retirement shortly after their promotion, in line with public service regulations.
At GL 15–16, 91 Assistant Directors were promoted to the rank of Deputy Directors, while 82 Chief Officers on GL 14–15 advanced to Assistant Directors.
The exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on GL 07–13 across various departments of the Commission.
In all, the promotion spans multiple cadres and was conducted in accordance with established guidelines and extant public service rules.
The Commission noted that the exercise reflects its resolve to reward merit, dedication and years of service, while sustaining leadership depth across its structures, particularly as preparations continue toward forthcoming electoral engagements.
The Commission congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to redouble their commitment to professionalism, integrity and impartial service in the discharge of their responsibilities.
